Before he embarked on a solo career in 1999, Johnny A. racked up years of experience as an ace guitarist on the Boston rock scene, as a sideman for members of Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Derek and the Dominos, and finally as the guitarist and musical director for J. Geils frontman Peter Wolf. Johnny A.'s two studio albums, 1999's Sometime Tuesday Morning and 2004's Get Inside, garnered rave reviews and even spawned a crossover hit with "Oh Yeah." In 2010, the Malden, Massachusetts native released his first live album, One November Night. He sat down with Gibson.com to discuss the live album, as well as those early Boston years and the Gibson Custom Signature guitar that bears his name.

Hey, PGS Andy here. Today we put together a little tribute to Soundgarden, inspired by the fat, tube-like tones from the Nobels ODR-1 overdrive. Kim Thayil and Chris Cornell are responsible for some of the biggest, rawest rock guitar tones to come out of Seattle in the 90's, based heavily on creative alternate tunings and cranked tube amp tones. The Nobel's ODR-1 happens to do these sounds very well, with its thick, defined drive and flat frequency response. And it's spectrum control lets you easily dial in a little scoop for lots of attack and huge bottom end.

Inspired by the past, but with his eyes fixed on the future, Ashley Wallbridge translated the famous piano lines into a 2011 fit masterpiece, 'Moonlight Sonata'.
As heard on his previous tracks 'Chimera', 'Harrier' and 'Smoke', Ashley likes to shine a little light on the darker side of dance music. He keeps them stuck between progressive, electro and trance, always adding a deep, energetic feel to it. Same goes for his 'Moonlight Sonata', on which he built a modern construct around the original piano line. A new anthem for the nocturnal society has risen.

Hi my name is Solvent and this is my 2nd Eurorack modular system video. The big news here is that I've got everything running from Expert Sleepers Silent Way (via Ableton Live) - no Midi, no Midi-to-CV/clock, just Silent Way converting audio directly into CVs and Gates, from my Presonus audio interface into an Expert Sleepers ES-1 module... I've even got my CR-78 clocked via a Silent Way LFO!
The first half is all about that sizzly bassline - DinSync OSC303 + Moog FreqBox's VCO, Bubblesound Sem20's HPF being modulated by an LFO coming from the Korg MS20. Sequence pattern is bring altered in real time by the Intellijel uScale quantizer.
The 2nd half is all about processing the CR-78 through the Flight of Harmony Plague Bearer, which is a weird filter that aims to destroy. And I think it does a fine job of that here.

It's not often we get a top DJ giving their time to produce a demonstration of how they set up their gear, so when Space Invader Joachim Garraud sent us this fascinating clip on how to set up the CDJ-2000s and Serato to utilise the HID control, we jumped at the chance.
Joachim walks us through exactly what is required, including updating the firmware on the CDJ-2000 (to version 3.1 or above), the correct version of Serato (2.2) and how to connect everything.
Once set up, you can play off Serato without timecode discs and take advantage of deep integration between the software and hardware including hot cues, browsing and waveform display.

Moby announces the release of a new single, The Day, out May 9th. The Day is taken from his upcoming new studio album, Destroyed, which he releases on his own label Little Idiot on May 16th.
The Day will be available in advance on iTunes from April 2nd, followed by the official release date and full remix bundle on May 9th. The package will include the original album track, with remixes from Lifelike, Basto, Gesaffelstein, Eddie Thoneick and Funkerman.
"'The Day was written in a hotel room in Spain at dawn when I hadn't slept. It was a beautiful hotel room, a beautiful perfect hotel room and it was six or seven in the morning. I wrote it on a acoustic guitar and recorded it on my phone, brought it home and re-recorded it with old broken down electronics that I have in my studio". - moby
The Day was indirectly inspired by David Bowie and Brian Eno's production which moby believes is now part of his DNA; growing up, moby had Low and Heroes spinning constantly on his turntable. One of the few tracks from Destroyed that moby sings on, The Day is a deeply personal song about late night desperation and dark night of the soul feelings usually associated with some terrible addiction; these themes are woven throughout the journey that his new album takes us on.

Hi my name is Solvent and this is the first video I've made with the Eurorack modular system that I'm currently putting together. Mainly it's demonstrating the sound of the DinSync OSC303 VCO (Roland TB-303 VCO clone) and Bubblesound Sem20 VCF, as well as an interesting effect I came across when sending a Portamento'd sequence through a CV quantizer module, in this case an Intellijel uScale.
Drums are coming from Ableton Live, which is also clocking the MFB Urzwerg analog sequencer. When I turn up the MFB's glide/portamento amount, you can hear the quantizer changing the note glide into several quantized intervals, for a cool video game / 8-bit type of sound.
The key changes are coming from the SH-101's CV-out into the uScale's Shift CV-in. This input is not 1v/oct, which explains the fact that the key intervals I'm playing don't match the Shift intervals you hear.
