Solvent modular crunch MFB Seq-02 + WMD Geiger Counter

s0LVentCIty さんが 2011/06/14 にアップロード
Hello my name is Solvent, and I just made this crunchy IDM Hip Hop beat on my Eurorack modular.

Everything is being sequenced by the MFB Seq-02, which is being clocked from a trigger coming out of Logic/Silent Way/ES-3. I locked it to Logic so that it'll be easier to chop up into loops later, if I decide to develop this track further.

Outside of the modular, I've got the kick from my Jomox MBase-01, and the snare is from my modified Boss DR-55. The occasional analog delay is from my Boss DM-100. The white noise in the HH sound is coming from my MS-20 since I don't have a noise source module yet.

More than half of the modules in my case are being used here, so I'll just point out the ones that are contributing most prominently to the sound:
- the glitchy Autechre-ish part in the HH comes from the Flight of Harmony Sound of Shadows digital delay module, with it's delay time being sequenced by the MFB
- VCO is Tip Top Audio Z3000
- VCO goes into the Bubblesound Sem20 VCF, before being destroyed by the WMD Geiger Counter Wave Table distortion / bit reduction module. The Sem20 actually plays a big part in the sound, as the WMD responds drastically to LP vs HP, and to Resonance amount.
- Geiger's wavetable is changing via a VC input, sequenced by the MFB.
- Post Geiger filter is an EMS Synthi VCF clone, DIY'd by a guy named Cameron from Chicago, which is similar to the STG's Sea Devil Filter module. Filter Cutoff is being modulated by the MFB.
- Synthwerks MG-1 module is being used to trigger the MFB's reset in, which I'm using to create manual fills, which remain perfectly in time on account of the MFB being clocked externally.

Solvent - Built-In Microphone

Solvent -- Demonstration Tape (1997-2007)
Label: Ghostly International
Catalog#: GI-70
Format: 2 × CD, Compilation
Country: US
Released: Sep 2007
Genre: Electronic
Style: Electro, Synth-pop
For over a decade, Jason Amm's work as Solvent has neatly defied categorization. His music is too sweetly melodic for techno or acid, his compositions too fiendishly detailed for synth-pop. He was too steeped in the sounds of the '80s to participate in the incipient IDM scene; he was briefly lumped in with the short-lived electroclash movement, only to outlive it; he's played "minimal wave" parties and goth clubs, indie-rock shows and techno all-nighters. But even as words fail in the face of Solvent's music, its pleasures are anything but elusive.

Raymond Scott techno w/Cyclebox + Sound of Shadows : SOLVENT

s0LVentCIty | 2011/04/08
Hi my name is Solvent and this is my 3rd Eurorack modular system video. Today I've made some Raymond Scott techno, with the help of my newly arrived Cylonix Cyclebox and Flight of Harmony Sound of Shadows. I haven't really got a clue how to use the Cylonix yet, but I thought this sounded good, so I pressed record. Drums and everything else are being triggered/sequenced from the MFB Urzwerg.javascript:void(0)

Silent Way ES-1 + CR-78 + Modular + Moog FreqBox : SOLVENT

s0LVentCIty | 2011/04/05
Hi my name is Solvent and this is my 2nd Eurorack modular system video. The big news here is that I've got everything running from Expert Sleepers Silent Way (via Ableton Live) - no Midi, no Midi-to-CV/clock, just Silent Way converting audio directly into CVs and Gates, from my Presonus audio interface into an Expert Sleepers ES-1 module... I've even got my CR-78 clocked via a Silent Way LFO!

The first half is all about that sizzly bassline - DinSync OSC303 + Moog FreqBox's VCO, Bubblesound Sem20's HPF being modulated by an LFO coming from the Korg MS20. Sequence pattern is bring altered in real time by the Intellijel uScale quantizer.

The 2nd half is all about processing the CR-78 through the Flight of Harmony Plague Bearer, which is a weird filter that aims to destroy. And I think it does a fine job of that here.

Intellijel + OSC303 + Sem20 : SOLVENT

s0LVentCIty | 2011/04/03
Hi my name is Solvent and this is the first video I've made with the Eurorack modular system that I'm currently putting together. Mainly it's demonstrating the sound of the DinSync OSC303 VCO (Roland TB-303 VCO clone) and Bubblesound Sem20 VCF, as well as an interesting effect I came across when sending a Portamento'd sequence through a CV quantizer module, in this case an Intellijel uScale.

Drums are coming from Ableton Live, which is also clocking the MFB Urzwerg analog sequencer. When I turn up the MFB's glide/portamento amount, you can hear the quantizer changing the note glide into several quantized intervals, for a cool video game / 8-bit type of sound.

The key changes are coming from the SH-101's CV-out into the uScale's Shift CV-in. This input is not 1v/oct, which explains the fact that the key intervals I'm playing don't match the Shift intervals you hear.

Roland CR-78 vs Moog FreqBox (Solvent demonstration)

s0LVentCIty | 2011/02/24 |
Hello my name is Solvent, and I like my electro funky.

This funky little setup consists of a Roland CR-78 drum machine, a Moogerfooger FreqBox VCO, with some help from an MFB Urzwerg analog sequencer, and Ableton Live.

The CR-78 and Urzwerg are synced to Ableton's midi clock. The CR-78 is going into the FreqBox's audio input. Initially you hear the dry CR-78, but then I fade the mix, from 100% source to 100% VCO. The FB's VCO pitch is being sequenced by the Urzwerg, while at the same time it is hard Sync'd to the CR-78's audio signal. Then I bring in a audio loop of the same CR-78, recorded into Ableton just a few minutes before.
